Here you can learn the basics of first aid and some history of first aid.
First aid is the first and immediate assistance given to any person with either a minor or serious illness or injury,[1] with care provided to preserve life, prevent the condition from worsening, or to promote recovery until medical services arrive.
World First Aid Day can be charted back to a historical event which occurred in 1859. In June 1859, during the Battle of Solferino in Italy, a businessman from Geneva named Henry Dunant was witness to the petrifying and gruesome scenes of injured people in the war.
The primary goal of first aid is to prevent death or serious injury from worsening. The key aims of first aid can be summarized with the acronym of 'the three Ps':
Check
When providing first aid, the first step is to check the scene for
any potential dangers that could harm you or the injured person.
This includes checking for any hazardous materials, traffic, or other potential hazards.
Once you have ensured that the area is safe, the next step is to check the person
for any injuries or illnesses.
Call
The second C in first aid is Call.
Once you have checked the person for injuries or illnesses,
the next step is to call for professional medical help.
This may involve calling 101 or the local emergency services, depending on the severity of the situation.
Care
The final C in first aid is Care. Once you have checked the person
for injuries or illnesses and called for medical help, the next step is to provide care to the person.
This may involve providing basic first aid, such as bandaging a wound or administering medication.
